Cole Arno Car Accident - Obituary Castleton-on-Hudson, New York

The Schodack Central School District and the Castleton-on-Hudson community are mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Cole Robert Arno, 21, who passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, following a tragic car accident. He died at Albany Medical Center.

A graduate of the Schodack Central School District’s Class of 2022, Cole was a proud former member of the Maple Hill Cross Country team, remembered by coaches and teammates for his dedication, team spirit, and infectious smile. His unexpected passing has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit school community and beyond.

Cole was born in Albany, New York, to Jeffrey Arno and Tracy (McDowell) D’Amico. Those who knew him describe Cole as a bright light in every room—a joyful, good-natured young man who never passed up an opportunity to make someone smile or pull off a harmless prank.

A lifelong animal lover, Cole’s compassion extended to all creatures, whether they were turtles, fish, or birds. It came as no surprise to his family when he chose Saint Francis, the Patron Saint of animals, as his confirmation name—reflecting his deep, gentle spirit.

Friends and family recall his unwavering affection for those closest to him. He shared a special bond with his siblings—playing cars with his older brother Bryce, turning to Kylee for help with schoolwork, and frequently asking to sleep over at Meeghan’s. His impressions and trademark “Dutch accent” performances, often complete with a windmill dance, were a source of laughter and joy at family gatherings.

Cole’s love extended deeply to his high school sweetheart, Brooke Romano. Their relationship was widely admired, with many calling them an “old couple in young love.” Friends say Brooke was undoubtedly his forever person, and their connection was marked by unwavering support and devotion.

After graduating, Cole began working at Thruway Beverage, where he was known for his strong work ethic, friendly demeanor, and the same joyful energy that defined his school years.

He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey Arno and Tracy (McDowell) D’Amico; his beloved girlfriend, Brooke Romano; his dog, Archie, who was his loyal companion; his siblings Meeghan (Dominique) Arno, Kylee Arno, and Bryce (Lexi) Arno; and stepsisters Rebecca (Peter) D’Amico, Katherine (Brian) Sitcer, and Katherine (Scott) D’Amico. He also leaves behind his cherished grandmother, a large extended family, and countless friends.

Cole Arno’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and light. As his loved ones navigate this immense loss, the community will continue to remember the joy he brought into so many lives. His absence leaves an undeniable void, but his memory will live on in every smile he inspired.

The Schodack Central School District extends its heartfelt condolences to the Arno and D’Amico families and to all who were fortunate enough to know and love Cole.
